Got inspired by a rain tree that was leaning into the lake for this poem about the “exotics” (plants that are not “native” and hence looked down upon generally speaking among ecologists).

The rain tree

It reaches as if
defying the physics
of being a tree

with one trunk
Reaching out as much
to the skies
as to the floor

providing shade and
a welcome
yet an exotic
Not from the place
brought in by another
not meant to belong

But yet… How beautifully
The rain tree has
claimed belonged and merged
into our lakes Pedestrian walks And
our poetry and lore

Even if it be that
among Plants and wildlife
The exotic shall remain at bay

May our lives be enriched
by another even from far away

Recalls my earlier poem from another rain tree another year at the Rain tree cafe in Bengaluru

Under a Rain Tree

I reach, I hold
I care, I wither;

I shed, I heal,
I break but recover;

I watch, I wear,
I brave & I figure…

I will live on,
one way or another…
