The panel discussed *OneHealth* the idea that human, animal and environmental health are inter-connected and public health action requires a lens that considers all these as inter-connected as opposed to siloed approaches focusing only on human, animal or environmental health. The focus was specifically on zoonotic diseases (like COVID-19) in vulnerable/tribal communities. At the time, one of the arguments made was that Tribal communities living in forest fringes are the "frontline" for detecting new zoonotic spillovers. And hence protecting these communities was not only a matter of justice, but is also a global health security imperative. *note added later in 2025*: The argument about this being an important matter due to the global health security logic is becoming less priority for me - the justice argument already being quite sufficient....whether they contribute to global health security...or not! Current surveillance systems are urban-centric. We fail to detect events in remote areas until they become outbreaks. We need "One Health" surveillance that integrates animal health data with human health data at the local level. ## See Also * An [[ecosystem approach]] for addressing zoonotic diseases like Kyasanur Forest Disease. * **[Green Hub Dialogues](file:///Users/prashanthns/.gemini/antigravity/brain/76b2efc7-82a4-4341-beda-2aa1259e0bac/green_hub_dialogues.md)**: Touches on similar themes of planetary health. * Article synthesising some of our work appeared in [Article 14](https://tribe.article-14.com/post/kyasanur-forest-disease-spreads-through-the-western-ghats-as-deforestation-hurts-forests-adivasi-communities-667e01a89d6f4) * We reviewed the ecological evidence-base for various disease-control efforts that are popularly deployed and found skethcy evidence for many. see [this paper from PLoS NTDs](https://journals.plos.org/plosntds/article?id=10.1371/journal.pntd.0009243) * Nature popular article based on some of our work [here](https://www.nature.com/articles/d44151-023-00044-w)
